Red Hot Brides!

Have you decided on the color of your wedding dress for 2009? It is not necessary for you to match the color of your wedding dress to your wedding theme. Deciding on what colors to wear and a theme is both fun and time consuming. Plan ahead. One of the most exciting parts of your planning the wedding is deciding what you will wear on the big day.

Traditionally the color of wedding dresses is either white or ivory. However as you can see that trends are bucking. If a color such as red is too bold, a nice in between alternative is to go with a dress that has a slight tint of color in it such as a pinkish hue or soft beige.

Balochi what?

As my trips to Iran and Zahedan("doozdab") increased, so did my will to get to keep my roots stronger. Coming back home from the trips, I realized how unusual it really was to stay connected to the balochi culture or identity. Sure, Pakistani Balochis has a lot of sites etc but not much about Iranian Balochs. I wonder why. Especially the Iranian Balochi girls, that were never mentioned or participated at any site at all....

So after wasting a lot of time googling "balochi clothes", "balochi people zahedan" (without any results), I decided to create my own blog. I knew that young people in my age, living outside Iran and Balochistan lacked a place to get info about the latest balochi music, clothes or the changes that are faced.

The balochi dress with its unique embroidment is not getting the attention that it deserves, nor the does the Iranian balochs. It is sad. But I hope that I, with a little effort or time, can make someone out there happy and excited.

Kurta Shalwar, a 2nd class dress

Kurta Shalwar is the national dress of Pakistan, still one sees very less of it in our corporate office environment. Why this discrimination? No explanation, but lame excuses.

I don't have anything against the prevalent Pant Shirt, Court and Tie culture, which some say is purely Westernized, but there should not be a complete bias/ ban against our National Dress. Ok, I also give it to them that Pant Shirt looks more professional and tidy to be worn in the office environment, but atleast on Fridays Kurta Shalwar should be allowed.

Jumma (Friday) has a special importance in the life of a Muslim and Islam has placed special emphasis on organizing, preparing and saying the Jumma (Friday) prayer. For this day atleast, wearing Shalwar Qameez in corporate offices should be allowed and left to the person's choice. Other than this, Pant Shirt is fine and should be followed strictly, nothing against that.

What say you ?

No Swimming in this $82,000 Golden Swimsuit

It's hard to find the perfect suit, but this gold weave suit out of Japan is apparently "better than feeling a million diamonds" and "like swimming in gold." Well it's more than "like" swimming in gold -- if you get in the water while wearing this baby you actually are swimming in gold -- the precious metal is woven right into the fabric. Valued at $82,000 the suit goes through a month-long weaving process where gold fibers about the size of a human hair are incorporated into the material. And also available in the same sparkling golden fabric is an even more expensive long dress valued at $243,900.

I wonder if they're scratchy or silky? And an important note from the designers on the swimsuit: it's not meant to go in the water.

What?! ...whatever.

Princess Diana's Dress to be Auctioned on E-Bay

A few months before Princess Diana's tragic death in a car crash in Paris, 80 gowns from her personal collection went up for auction at Christie's. Three of those gowns were purchased by the cable television network WE TV and have been preserved ever since, waiting for the right moment to bring them out as a celebration of her memory and style. Two will be touring the country this fall, the other will be auctioned for charity.

Beginning August 12, this beautiful chiffon evening gown designed by Catherine Walker will go up for auction on E-Bay. Valued at more than $300,000, the Princess wore the gown to the Cannes Film Festival in 1987 and again to the opening of Miss Saigon in 1989. All proceeds from the sale will go to America's Promise Alliance to support a cause close to Diana's heart - helping underprivileged children. America's Promise Alliance is a non-profit organization founded by General Colin Powell to to ensure that all children have the fundamental resources needed to lead successful happy lives.

The auction runs through August 22 and the starting bid is $125,000.

A Wedding Dress with 4 Pounds of Jewels

Wedding dresses come in all shapes and sizes from sleek and stylish to large and marshmallow-like, and from hand-embroidered to mass-produced. And although jewels aren't that uncommon in small doses, what about 4 pounds of jewels? A designer in Hong Kong has created a wedding dress with 9,999 karats of jewels (that's a very deliberate number!) and it's on sale for over $130,000.

It's beautiful but I personally wouldn't want a wedding dress with so many different colors, and I think for that price it might be more worth it to just get something custom-made -- I think I'd still be able to afford plenty of jewels.

Barack Obama Adorns Runway Fashion

Barack Obama has already had an influence on fashion and while some have used his sartorial style or his image as a touchstone perhaps none have done so as flamboyantly as Jean Charles de Castelbajac. The showpiece of his most recent runway show was a bright yellow dress that features a sequinned image of Obama. The short dress was part of a colorful line with dresses emblazoned with clouds, superhero insignia and beauty queen faces in tiaras complete with flowing hair. In The Telgegraph de Castelbajac calls Obama, the most charismatic leader in politics today.

Princess Diana's wedding dress designer sells engagement blouse after financial difficulties

Elizabeth Emanuel admitted that she would be sad to sell the distinctive pink chiffon garment - worn on loan by Lady Diana Spencer in a Vogue magazine photo shoot in late 1980 shortly before her engagement to the Prince of Wales - but felt it was time to "move on".

The blouse, along with a 16-inch miniature of the Princess's wedding dress, is being sold in an internet auction of her work dating back to the late 1970s, partly to help pay for a relaunch of her career after a failed business deal left her in financial trouble.

It was this blouse which first attracted the Princess to Ms Emanuel and her former husband David's London studio, leading to the couple being selected to make her wedding dress in the summer of 1981.

The photograph taken by Lord Snowdon showing Diana wearing the distinctive blouse appeared in the magazine shortly before her engagement to the Prince of Wales was announced.

"We got a phone call from Vogue magazine asking us if we had anything that we could lend, a blouse with a high neck, that could be warn by a very famous personality," Ms Emanuel said.

"They didn't say who it was, we didn't know at the time it was for Diana, when we did find out we were very excited."

Attracted by the blouse, Diana visited the studio and soon chose the black dress she was to wear for on her first official public engagement. She also commissioned them to design the wedding dress itself.

"It is really the garment that started it all off, the relationship between Diana and ourselves," she added.

More than 200 items, including dresses worn by the actresses Elizabeth Hurley and Helena Bonham Carter, are being sold.

"It is sad, especially for me, but I don't know what to do with them ... There comes a point where it is so expensive to store."

Although she said that the auction had been discussed for a long time, she admitted that recent financial difficulties had acted as a spur.

Ms Emanuel has spoken publicly of suffering money problems after a hoped-for deal with the investors, to build up her business, fell through.

"We decided to do this quite a long time ago but it is particularly helpful at the moment, just to move forward, ... Certainly it is going to help the situation at the moment, it has been very difficult for the last few months."

A miniature of the wedding dress made from the original material will also be sold in the auction which is being organised by Auction Atrium, will take place between November 3 and 13 on the website

Ms Emanuel said that she had no idea how much the items would fetch.

Second Life’s Most Expensive Dress

In a world wherein imagination sets the limits, fashion can go beyond the extremes. Second Life has always nudged its users towards the path of immeasurable creativity. And this was exactly what Eshi Otawara did.

Eshi publicly released a limited black version of her Fishhook Dress last December of 2007. It was the first in her original line of Eshi Otawara wearables in her Chambre du Chocolat shop. Unfortunately, a lot of fashion afficionados were disappointed when they found out that Eshi wasn’t going to sell any more of her dress after the two week period.

But then last July 13, 2008, all were at buzz when Eshi placed her Fishhook Dress up for auction in the in-world Relay for Life fund raiser. The auction attracted a lot of SL fashion icons who were the main men during the bidding war. Finally Kay Fairey and Clarabell Cazalet, two prominent Premiere Modeling Management models, won the bid at a whooping $L460, 000!

The Fishhook dress has grabbed its place in Second Life’s history as the Most Expensive Dress. And undoubtedly, SL residents are recognizing Eshi Otawara as one of the most respected and notable fashion designers of all time.

Most Expensive Dress Shirt

They say the clothes make the man. That’s probably less true today than when you could tell a man’s occupation by the hat he wore, but if it’s true of anything then it’s true of the world’s most expensive shirt.

Swedish shirt-making company Eton, celebrating their 80th birthday, created this shirt out of the finest Egyptian cotton. Of course, it couldn’t be the most expensive shirt in the world without a few diamonds. Both the studs and the cufflinks are encrusted with diamonds—white diamonds on the cufflinks and colored diamonds on the studs.

As if that isn’t enough, the dress shirt will be touring the world before it’s sold at auction next year. The luxurious shirt will make stops in Milan, LA, Stockholm and a few other places with Eton stores.

The most expensive shirt is valued at £23,000 (over $45,000). Proceeds from its sale will go to charity.

World’s Most Expensive Abaya Valued For $350,000

You are wrong if you think that only revealing and trendy silhouettes gets an invitation to undergo a blingy treatment and within no time evolve in their shining new avatar. Whilst Triumph Luxurious Diamond Thong layered with countless diamonds may seem a confrontation to my argument but the news about World’s Most Expensive Abaya, a traditional form of Islamic dress stands high to defend it. Abaya, the simplest form of dressing accepted by Islamic religion was picked by British couture designer Bruce Oldfield. The bejeweled Abaya features 4,668 diamonds weighing 359.7 grams of white gold. Bruce in association with Crosley Diamonds based in London has unveiled this luxury called World’s Most Expensive Abaya.

They say the deluxe Abaya is expected to be sold off at The Gulf Luxury Trade falling coming month for $350,000. The sales generated would be donated towards the relief charity “Islamic Relief.” Popularly known electronic violinist and former model Linzi Stoppard is the proud foremost person to don it.

The Most Expensive Dress a Marilyn Monroe Original

This morning I became fascinated by the idea of finding out the most expensive dress ever. I’m not sure what prompted this question in my brain, yet there it was nonetheless begging an answer. And by Jove, I think we’ve got it!

In a unique TV event, Christie’s did a live broadcast of the fifty-five lots from The Personal Property of Marilyn Monroe auction on October 27, 1999. Up for auction was the Eternity Band given to Monroe by her third husband Joe DiMaggio which went for $700,000; her Happy Birthday Mr. President Invitation which ended up going for $115,000 and the most exciting auction of the evening was Marilyn’s Happy Birthday Mr. President dress which she wore at the infamous birthday tribute to President John F. Kennedy at the Madison Square Gardens on May 19th, 1962.

The dress Marilyn Monroe donned that birthday evening was a full length evening sheath dress of flesh colored gauze encrusted with rhinestones embroidered in a rosette motif. The dress that Monroe sang the sweet “Happy Birthday Mr. President” song which now lives in infamy, was sold at Christie’s that October evening for $1,150,000. The dress was originally made for Monroe for approximately $2,500. Now, I call that a good investment.
